Getting started

What is Idlebay?

Idlebay is a Windows desktop app for messaging, community voice and screen sharing. It also includes private groups, gatherings and saved messages.

How do I get into the private beta?

Ask the person who invited you for an account invitation code. Download Idlebay from the Download page, install it, and follow the account-creation prompts.

Is a beta invitation the same as a community invite?

No. A beta account invitation is for account creation; a community invitation is for joining a community after signing in. Ask your inviter which one they sent. Read the invitation guide.

How do I add a friend?

Open Messages, choose Add a friend, and enter the person’s unique username. They need to accept your request before you can exchange direct messages. Their privacy settings may limit requests.

How do I join a community?

Use Join with invite in the app if you have a community invitation. You can also explore publicly listed communities in Explore.

Where do I find my saved messages?

Open Keeps to find the messages you saved. Saving a message lets you return to it later.

Installation & troubleshooting

How do I update Idlebay?

Choose Check for updates in the app. When the download is ready, restart and update. You can also download the current installer here and run it after closing the app.

The download has a .crdownload extension. What do I do?

That is a browser’s incomplete download file. Wait for the download to finish. If it failed, retry from the Download page. Do not rename an incomplete download into an EXE.

Setup says the app is still open.

Close Idlebay completely, including any other app windows, then retry. If setup still reports a conflict, record the exact message and use the support instructions below. Do not delete your account or profile folder to force an install.

Why does Windows show an installer warning?

Windows may show a warning for an unfamiliar installer. Confirm the download came from idlebay.app and check the file before continuing. If something looks wrong, stop and get help; do not disable Windows security protections.

My microphone or screen sharing is not working.

Check the selected device and permissions in Windows and in the app. Join the intended voice room before enabling your microphone or sharing. If the issue continues, report the steps you tried and your Idlebay version.

I see “socket hang up” or a connection error.

Check your internet connection and try reconnecting. If it persists, note when it happened, what you were doing and the exact error. Include these details in an issue report.

Can I use Idlebay on Mac, Linux, iPhone or Android?

There is no public download for those platforms on this website yet. The available installer is for 64-bit Windows.

Account & safety

Where are privacy and contact settings?

Open Safety in the app, then Contact & privacy. You can manage incoming friend requests, calls, group invitations and activity visibility. Save your changes.

How do I report a person or message?

Choose Report from the profile or message, select a reason, add details and review your submission. Track it under Safety → Your reports. Read the reporting guide.

What changes when I block someone?

Blocking removes the friendship, cancels invitations and prevents shared voice. Past posts in shared communities remain visible. Unblocking does not restore the friendship. Read about blocking.

How do I protect my sign-in?

Use a unique password and enable an authenticator in Account security. Keep your recovery codes private and stored outside the app. Never send anyone your password or a sign-in code.

How do I reset my password?

Use the password-reset option on the sign-in screen and follow the email-code prompts. If two-factor authentication is enabled, you may also need your authenticator or a recovery code.

STILL NEED A HAND?

Get the right kind of help.

A bug or app problem

Use Report an issue in the app. Include your version, what you were doing, the exact error and steps to reproduce it.

Remove passwords, invitation codes and personal conversations from any screenshots.

A safety concern

Use Report on the relevant message, profile or community. This routes the concern to staff with the selected context.

Reporting guide
If you cannot sign in, use the password-reset flow first. If the app will not open, contact the person who invited you for the beta support route. Do not share your password, authenticator codes or recovery codes.
